Gary King is The David Florence Professor of Government and Director of the Institute for Quantitative Social Science. Please visit Professor King's web site for extensive information on his research.
As Executive Director, Breean Fortier is responsible for the overall strategic, programmatic, financial, and personnel management of The Institute for Quantitative Social Science and its related programs. In this capacity, Cathy also oversees the Institute's day-to-day operations and administrative activities, including grants management, fundraising, budgeting, space planning, human resources and communications.
The Steering Committee for the Institute is comprised of a highly talented and diverse faculty from across the University. Members of the Steering Committee are appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in consultation with the Institute Director. It is the charge of the Steering Committee to advise the Director and staff concerning the direction and administration of the Institute.
The Institute treat all quantitative social science faculty from across the university as ex-officio members of our intellectual community. We see no reason to require an application or formal invitation to become a "faculty associate" merely to participate in our activities or communications. We'll (automatically) use the label to apply to you if you are participating, so we can facilitate communication among all those who do and so we can support your research, and not otherwise. So if you are interested, please participate. If we can help, please let us know.
The Scholars in Health Policy Research Program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is intended to foster the development of the new generation of creative thinkers in health policy research from the disciplines of economics, political science and sociology. The Scholars program is co-directed by Kathy Swartz and Nicholas Christakis.
Visiting Faculty, Scholars, and Pre- and Post-doctoral Fellows from other institutions may become resident members of the Institute through nomination by a Faculty Associate, approved by the Director. All visitors must have an active research or teaching collaboration with a member of the Institute’s intellectual community.
The Institute is home to a large population of Harvard’s graduate students. Nominated by our Faculty Associates, graduate students receive mentoring, space, computer and technical support, and other benefits from affiliation with the Institute.
Through our Undergraduate Scholars Program, Harvard College undergraduates participate in the Institute's ongoing research. This truly unique program offers our undergraduates the opportunity to work side-by-side with faculty mentors in the development of new quantitative tools, methods, analysis, and their applications.
The Institute employs a gifted and dedicated staff to support its people and programs.
